I use the elemental medium of clay to produce one-offs or limited series that celebrate our bond with the natural world. My starting point is often something caught in a swift glance and captured on paper or photograph, from which I make a small maquette. Influenced by prehistoric art and early modern sculpture, I use clean, simple shapes and minimal surface decoration such as expressive marks with oxides and slips. I work with porcelain and stoneware and employ a variety of techniques. I am fascinated by the interaction between clay and fire and I use wood kilns and other reduction firing methods by choice.
