Ellen McVey

I have loved art since childhood, but was advised to concentrate on academic exams to ensure I could make a living. I was therefore thrilled when I was invited to join Redder Splash! In the 1980s through a friend and colleague of Pat Miller.

It gave me the opportunity to go back to creating art and learning so much about the various techniques and mediums available, many of which I did not know. It has also given me lovely friendships, interesting art trips and holidays together. I enjoy weekly workshops, which were revived during Covid lockdown .

I retired in 2021, which has given me the time, energy and emotional space to create and learn in a way that wasn’t possible while working. I am also a member of a local U3A group, which has given me focus, teaching and guidance. I also love art videos shared on instagram, which show you lots of art tips, methods etc.

I have always been drawn to organic shapes and colour. I am also keen to improve my portraiture skills and ability to create realistic representational images as well as expressive art.
